Sperm/ eggs freezing is fertility preservation method

Eggs /Sperm Cryopreservation

Cryopreservation of eggs is a method to preserve fertility that has its medical indications  and social causes.

In order to obtain enough eggs it is desirable to make ovarian controlled hyperstimulation, after which the eggs obtained during the aspiration are frozen by the vitrification method and stored for an indefinite period. The number and quality of the obtained eggs depend on the woman’s age, and the ovarian reserve. At the desired time the frozen eggs can be thawed out, fertilized by the partner’s sperm and the obtained embryo/embryos can be transferred into uterine cavity.

Cryopreservation of eggs is made in patients with diagnosis of malignant tumors before chemotherapy or radiotherapy. The first pregnancy planning at the late reproductive age should be mentioned among social causes. It is desirable to perform the cryopreservation of eggs up to 35, in order to increase the success index of in-vitro fertilization.

Sperm cryopreservation means freezing and storing the sperm for its further use. Prior to freezing the sperm a sample shall be examined by the embryologist. Sperm cryopreservation is a procedure used to defer childbearing. Frozen sperm is kept for an indefinite period of time.
